Thermal Barrier Coatings

Variable Density Microstructures

The Axial III is a versatile tool capable of controllably producing a variety of Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs). The choice of TBC microstructure depends on the application and coating strategy dictated by manufacturers of TBC cladded parts. These microstructures vary from amorphous porous, through dense vertically micro-cracked, to columnar structured coatings. Thanks to tight process control and high reproducibility backed up by many years of research any of TBCs can be industrially manufactured by Axial III.

New technology, Axial III Suspension Plasma Spraying (SPS) recently developed at Mettech has yielded new nano-structured TBCs with properties similar to those of EB PVD deposited coatings, at a fraction of their cost.
